Materials provided: Wooden and metal type, letterpress tools and equipment, printing ink and rollers, paper and drawing supplies, printing press, aprons and gloves. Additional tools and materials can be purchased if required.
What to bring: Bring your creative energy and any words, quotes, whakataukī etc that you would like to work with. Try to find short, simple phrases - most students find that 7-9 words is about right.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are available in the studio but please bring your lunch. Founders Café will be open if you’d like to purchase food or drinks.
Wear closed toe shoes and some old clothes. Long hair should be tied back and jewellery removed when operating the printing presses.
You will leave with: A selection of printed, handmade works.

Renee is an award-winning printmaker and letterpress printer, and the founder of The Armarie Room, a professional printmaking studio dedicated to traditional print processes. Her work combines contemporary design with heritage presses, and has been recognised with multiple Pride In Print awards for excellence in letterpress printing.
Renee has over 25 years’ experience as an educator, teaching nationally and internationally across private, public, and tertiary settings. She has written and developed numerous courses and now specialises in teaching printmaking workshops for both adults and young people. Through The Armarie Room, she offers rare access to historic printmaking equipment within a contemporary working studio.
Renee is also a qualified ESOL teacher, with extensive experience supporting diverse learners.
