Karissa is a furniture maker and graphic designer drawn to clean lines and harmony in functional objects. Originally from Guatemala, her cultural background shapes her approach to making and meaning.
With over a decade as a designer and creative director, making is a natural extension of Karissa's practice. Before working in wood, she explored mixed media in community projects, co-founding a recycling centre in Guatemala using recycled plastic and unconventional materials. This deepened her sensitivity to material reuse and the emotional life of objects.
Over the past year, Karissa has immersed herself in the Centre for Fine Woodworking's intensive programme. This period of hard, focused work has refined not only my technical skills, but also her voice as a maker.
Karissa is particularly interested in furniture as a language to express connection through material, structure, and traditional joinery. Well-made objects matter in our world of constant consumption.
