Join artist Claire Colvin for a stroll around the Queens Gardens with your sketch book. The diverse mixture of native and exotic plantings will be material for various exercises to free up your approach to drawing.

Being in nature is known to have health benefits, teamed with gentle exercise and group discussion, this session offers something for novice to experienced alike..

Finish off in the Suter Art Gallery studio, to partake in some fun exercises culminating with a collaborative drawing!

Materials provided: Sketchbook, pen, pencil complimentary - feel free to bring own choice of medium along.

What to bring: Phone/camera for reference shots, own art supplies optional. Bring drink bottle, comfy shoes and hat. Dress for the weather - we will walk even if it’s wet!

You will leave with: Pocket sketchbook, sketches and a photo of the collaborative drawing.

Claire Colvin

Claire has a degree in sculpture, and worked in London as a figurative model maker and illustrator. Her recent practice explores rugby moves and the NZ landscape.

She has experience of hosting several successful workshops from drawing the moving figure to farm animals and the landscape. Claire is loving life in Nelson, where she shares her passion for the power of the pencil!
